What do you do if you are a small software development company that is just starting out and need a place to store company research for marketing and sales purposes? Oh that’s right - I write custom software, so I wrote one! I do realize there are many free and paid applications to store contact info, however, I wanted to be in control of my end state (which I am still figuring out), customizations, and flexibility. I started with an Excel spreadsheet as I was doing research to build a potential customer base. I was quick to realize that what I was looking for was a lot more than just a spreadsheet. I ended up building a Window Form application that talks to SQL Server or SQL Server Express which multiple people can work out of at the same time. Here is a screenshot:

I put this together with a number of features in mind. I think the neatest one is auto commit to the database when you leave a field.
• Ability to store, import, and export database connection information
• Custom tagging of company types
• Custom tagging of contacts
• Custom tagging of communication methods
• Stores queries to quickly retrieve data
• Filter button to quickly find records
• Auto commit to the database
There are many automations that we are going to be able to do with this data. I am really hoping to wear out a “Push to Customer Contacts” button that will utilize an existing service to sync contact info with my business cell phone.

I am into the business world from many years and have noticed that the paid online marketing modes are highly beneficial, especially when you need quick results. In fact, I am also using the Adwords Campaign Management services. Very happy with the results.

Hello,
The app looks good. Is that a marriage of Powershell and Windows forms? Or some dotnet ... ? Interested in what programming / scripting languages pull this all together.

Thanks. I did the Windows Forms in VB.NET. That was the quickest way for me to put the GUI front end together. The GUI is useful for data entry, storing/running queries, etc. I am using lots of PowerShell to utilize the data. The database code is very similar between VB.NET and PowerShell.
